Winemaker Notes
From its lovely dark violet color to its luscious fruit aromas, this wine captures the alluring essence of Sonoma County Zinfandel. On the palate, layers of wild blueberry, blackberry and cassis are underscored by an elegant structure that includes supple, refined tannins, balanced acidity and just a hint of juicy sweetness and toasty oak.
Production
After getting off to a relatively early start, sunny skies and slightly above average temperatures made for a very consistent and speedy Sonoma County harvest. Yields were just a touch above average, and the quality was excellent across all varietals. Our final pick of pristine, perfectly ripe fruit came into our new winemaking facility on October 17th. Overall, 2014 delivered the third phenomenal vintage in a row, with exceptional color and concentration, and delicious aromas and flavors.

I'll be totally honest, being English and European (bit unsure about that now because of brexit) I have avoided Californian wines for the last twenty years due to over sweet, tasteless wine appearing in the UK. However, wanting to buy a thankyou Christmas present for my cousin, who loves zinfandel, I went to Majestic ( a UK national specialist wine retailer) with little hope of finding anything. Well, the Decoy has proved me wring and convinced me that here is something special. I am no wine expert but this has masses of blackberry and cassis as you say, goes superbly well with a good steak (which I am having now with the rest of the bottle!). Highly recommended to both US and UK oenophiles. My cousin will be a happy man over the festive holiday (vacation)
